LANSING — Ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris’ visit to Detroit next Monday, June 28, Michigan Democratic Party Chair Lavora Barnes today issued the following statement:

“We are thrilled to welcome the Vice President back to the Great Lakes State next week. Thanks to the Biden-Harris administration and the success of their American Rescue Plan, Michigan is experiencing a record economic recovery as millions of residents get vaccinated and federal funding continues to help our communities reopen.

“From raises for teachers and funding for child care, to programs that will help small businesses thrive, Gov. Whitmer has proposed billions of dollars in investments across the state using the federal funds Vice President Harris helped secure earlier this year.

“That kind of leadership matters, and is a sharp contrast from the Republicans officials who have repeatedly attempted to hobble Gov. Whitmer’s recovery efforts—a contrast that Michigan voters won’t soon forget.”

Since the passage of the Biden-Harris administration’s American Rescue Plan, over 61 percent of Michiganders have received at least one vaccine dose, unemployment claims are down, and businesses across the state are reopening. This historic investment was passed by Democrats in Congress without support from a single Michigan Republican voted against it—despite the plan including $1,400 direct payments to Michiganders, the extension of the Child Tax Credit, and billions of dollars in federal funding to help Michigan’s economic recovery.
