DNC Chair Jaime Harrison and DNC Native Caucus Chair Clara Pratte issued the following joint statement on National Awareness Day for Missing and Murdered Indigenous People:

For too long, the crisis of murdered and missing indigenous people has been left untold. Today, we acknowledge that thousands of cases remain unsolved, and rededicate ourselves to bringing justice and closure to the loved ones of the missing and lost.

The Biden-Harris administration — with the leadership of Secreatary Deb Haaland — has taken decisive action by establishing a Missing and Murdered Unit within the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The Democratic Party applauds this work and reaffirms our commitment to ensuring indigenous communities are safe and have access to the justice they deserve.
