As Mike Pompeo hits the road this week for events in New Hampshire, New York City and Iowa, DNC Spokesperson Ammar Moussa released the following statement:

“While some Republicans are trying to lie about their extreme anti-abortion records, Mike Pompeo has come out against the vast majority of Americans and in favor of Republicans’ agenda of making abortion illegal nationwide, even in cases of rape or incest. As Pompeo himself has suggested, whether they support banning abortion is the question every Republican has to answer.”

Pompeo supports abortion bans without exceptions for rape or incest:

AP: “U.S. Rep. Mike Pompeo said he believes abortions should be allowed only when necessary to save the life of the mother, while his Democratic challenger Robert Tillman vows to back abortion rights. Pompeo, who was swept into office in the November 2010 conservative tide that took the House, told The Associated Press that he would not support any other exception that would permit abortions, even in cases where the mother had been raped.”

Pompeo has advocated for banning abortion nationwide:

Mike Pompeo: “While we would like to see abortion illegal nationwide, that likely won’t happen in the near term.  Instead, we should take a two-pronged approach:  1) restrict abortion as much as possible in each state, and 2) work to create a society that makes abortion obsolete.”

Pompeo has called for Republican politicians to act on their rhetoric about banning abortion:

Washington Examiner: “Mike Pompeo, who was Trump’s CIA director, tweeted on Wednesday that in the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, ‘We will see which politicians supported the pro-life cause to win elections, and which actually believed it.’”
