This Sunshine Week, MDP will be holding Republicans running for governor accountable, shedding light on the aspects of their campaign, background, or policies Michiganders deserve more transparency on.

Closing out the week is Tudor Dixon, who has proven over her campaign that she’ll stoop to any low necessary to mislead Michigan voters. This year, an advisor for her campaign admitted to spreading outright lies about Governor Gretchen Whitmer with attacks the Detroit Free Press had to dismiss as “a massive stretch, at best.”

Making this gubernatorial primary even messier, Dixon has “brazen[ly]” relied on an “independent” PAC, Michigan Strong, to boost her fundraising numbers and level a number of attacks against Kevin Rinke.

Additionally, MDP is calling on all 12 gubernatorial candidates to disclose their tax returns and personal financial information, which Governor Whitmer has voluntarily done annually since she was a candidate in 2018. Michigan working families deserve a better sense of which interests the entire field’s wrong-for-Michigan agendas are angling to protect.

MDP spokesperson Rodericka Applewhaite issued the following statement:

“Here we arrive at the end of another Sunshine Week that got utterly ignored by every Republican running for governor. Few candidates have exploited the complete lack of transparency as blatantly as Tudor Dixon, who has made blatantly false attacks and used an independent PAC to fudge her fundraising numbers. Michiganders deserve better.”
