Ronna McDaniel and the Republican National Committee have spurred a civil war gripping their party for nearly a week — and are now complaining about the consequences of their own actions, as if they could not have predicted the political ramifications of declaring a violent attack on the Capitol “legitimate political discourse.”
Republican leaders who have spent the last 13 months trying to memory hole their role in the January 6 attack on the Capitol really don’t appreciate Ronna McDaniel and the RNC reminding voters the Republican Party officially condones political violence, attacking police officers, and trying to overturn elections.

The RNC and top Republicans are now intensively trying to pass blame to one another while Ronna McDaniel works the phones to try to distance herself from her very own words, in a classic example of gaslighting.
Washington Post: “In phone calls over the weekend, McDaniel told others that she was pushed by Bossie to support the resolution and that she did not intend to support violence, which she wanted Republican lawmakers appearing on TV to make clear. People she spoke to described her as ‘on the ropes and trying to do damage control,’ in the words of one person.”
Washington Post: “She also told others privately that she had taken a political bullet for House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) by changing the resolution from an original draft that said McCarthy should expel Cheney and Kinzinger from the House GOP conference.”
New York Times: “Inside the Republican National Committee, the resolution has led to an intensive round of finger-pointing. Several members said they never intended to suggest that those who rioted on Jan. 6, 2021, were ‘engaged in legitimate political discourse,’ even as they conceded the censure resolution’s language said just that.”
