This week, as Florida’s extreme abortion ban took effect, Floridians are seeing and hearing how Donald Trump is responsible for ripping away their freedoms after paving the way for Roe to be overturned. From billboards, to press calls, and even a sky banner over Mar-a-Lago, the DNC is making sure that, as this devastating ban takes effect, Americans know Trump is not only responsible but also would take his extreme agenda even further with a national abortion ban.

On Tuesday, the DNC hosted a virtual press conference with Southern Democratic leaders to blast Trump for ripping away the rights of women in South:

Florida Times-Union: ‘Cruelty and chaos’: As new Florida abortion law takes hold, Democrats rally for change

“Florida’s new law further disrupts Southeast

“But the move to six weeks, cleared by the state’s Supreme Court on April 1, disrupts access both in the state and for women who earlier may have thought of traveling to Florida to terminate a pregnancy.

“‘What we’re seeing is reproductive freedom being ripped away from women all across the Southeast,’ said U.S. Rep. Nikema Williams, an Atlanta Democrat and chair of the Georgia Democratic Party.

“Anderson Clayton, the North Carolina Democratic Party chair who, at age 26, is the youngest state party leader in the nation, said, ‘If you’re a woman, you’re not safe from Trump.’

“‘Florida voters are our last line of defense for millions of women across the South,’ Fried said. ‘Voters can reverse the extreme ban and restore reproductive freedom in November.’”

WPLG (Miami): Florida’s 6-week abortion plan set to go into effect this week

“Approximately one in nine or 10 pregnancy terminations in Florida this year were for women traveling from more restrictive states.

“Currently, Virginia remains the sole state in the Southeast where abortions are legal.

“‘Across the Deep South, there will be nowhere people can go to get the care they need and deserve,’ said U.S. Rep. Nikema Williams, D-Georgia.

“Regardless of political affiliation, there is a consensus among some, like Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried, the state’s former agriculture secretary, who believe that politicians should not dictate discussions about abortion.

“‘Regardless (of) if you’re Republican, Democrat or Independent, politicians should not be in this conversation,’ she said.”

WFTS (Tampa): Florida’s 6-week abortion ban takes effect today

“‘It’s going to be a gut-wrenching experience for the people of this state to start hearing the horrific stories that are going to start coming out. The women making impossible decisions—not getting the healthcare access that they need,’ Nikki Fried, Florida Democratic Party Chair, said.”

On Wednesday, the DNC hit Trump on his home turf with a banner saying “Trump’s Plan: Ban Abortion, Punish Women” that flew over Mar-a-Lago:

USA Today: Democrats fly banner over Mar-a-Lago blaming Trump for Florida’s ‘extreme’ abortion ban

“Hours after Florida’s six-week abortion ban took effect Wednesday, the Democratic National Committee put the blame squarely on former President Donald Trump.

“On Wednesday afternoon, the DNC flew a banner over the former president’s Mar-a-Lago Club that read ‘Trump’s Plan: Ban Abortion, Punish Women.’ […]

“‘Donald Trump is the reason for Florida’s extreme abortion ban, and for every abortion ban across the country,’ DNC spokesperson Jackie Bush said in a statement. ‘As women suffer, Trump claims overturning Roe and his extreme bans are working the way they’re ‘supposed to.’ Trump supports letting states punish women and their doctors. If given the chance, he’ll go even further with an extreme nationwide ban. The stakes of this election are clear: the only way to restore and safeguard our freedoms is to reelect President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.’”
