The contrast between the Democratic and Republican parties couldn’t be clearer – and it’s getting uglier by the day for the GOP. Take Virginia for example, where we saw gubernatorial candidate Glenn Youngkin tighten his embrace of Donald Trump as the former president headlined a rally in support of his campaign that included attendees using a flag present at the January 6 insurrection during the pledge of allegiance. Trump’s full throated endorsement of Youngkin just hours after reiterating his belief that the “Presidential Election Fraud of 2020” is the most important issue facing the country is just the latest embrace between Trump and Youngkin, who said earlier in his campaign that “Trump represents so much of why I’m running.”
Meanwhile, the DNC announced new ads in Virginia highlighting Terry McAuliffe’s strong record versus Glenn Youngkin’s Trumpian agenda. The ads will run on Spanish-language and Black radio stations in the Washington DC, Richmond, and Norfolk media markets, in addition to AAPI print outlets in Northern Virginia.
State parties across the country also put Republicans on defense this week as they continue to put politics ahead of the American people, prolong the pandemic by politicizing science and vaccines, and try to block critical legislation to cut costs for families, create good-paying jobs, and invest in America’s roads and bridges.
Lastly, the fourth installment of the Child Tax Credit payments hit bank accounts today. These middle-class tax cuts are making a difference in the lives of working parents across the country, making it easier to pay bills, save for the future, and put food on the table for their family — no thanks to a single Republican in Congress.
