Trump’s defeats in court continue to pile up at an embarrassingly fast pace for him and his legal allies. Judges across the country have rejected Trump’s lies and his unsound efforts to overturn the will of the people over and over again, yet Trump refuses to accept the reality that he lost the election, and it wasn’t even close.
This morning, a Michigan judge rejected yet another lawsuit from Trump’s allies to overturn the election, saying that “the people have spoken.”
Detroit News: “A federal judge has rejected a last-minute push by Michigan Republicans who sought an emergency order to overturn President-elect Joe Biden’s victory in the state, saying the effort aimed to ‘ignore the will of millions of voters.’ The suit seemed ‘less about achieving the relief’ the GOP plaintiffs sought and ‘more about the impact of their allegations on people’s faith in the democratic process and their trust in our government,’ wrote Judge Linda Parker of Michigan’s Eastern District. ‘The People have spoken,’ wrote Parker, who issued the ruling in the early morning hours of Monday, a week before the nation’s presidential electors will meet.”
Last week, Trump and his allies continued their trend of court defeats and stunningly lost five times in a matter of hours.
Politico: “President Donald Trump and his legal allies earned a platinum sombrero Friday, striking out five times in a matter of hours in states pivotal to the president’s push to overturn the election results — and losing a sixth in Minnesota for good measure. It was another harsh milestone in a monthlong run of legal futility, accompanied by sharp rebukes from county, state and federal judges who continue to express shock at the Trump team’s effort to simply scrap the results of an election he lost.”
Judges have roundly rejected Trump’s lies and said that his efforts to overturn the election results undermine our democracy.
Wisconsin conservative justice: “The relief being sought by the petitioners is the most dramatic invocation of judicial power I have ever seen. Judicial acquiescence to such entreaties built on so flimsy a foundation would do indelible damage to every future election.”
Arizona judge: “The court finds no misconduct, no fraud and no effect on the outcome of the election.”
Nevada judge: “There is no credible or reliable evidence that the 2020 General Election in Nevada was affected by fraud.”
That hasn’t stopped Trump, who made clear at his rally on Saturday that he will continue to spread lies and attack our democracy.
ABC News: “His tweets and the 101 minutes President Donald Trump spent airing grievances and falsehoods in Georgia Saturday night made clear he will pursue his dangerous fictions right through the end of his presidency. The good of the Republican Party — and, of course, the good of the country — are, at best, secondary considerations for the president at this point.”
Trump even tried to pressure Georgia’s state legislators to overturn the results, but top Georgia Republican officials rejected his efforts
CNN: “President Donald Trump on Saturday called Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, pushing him to convince state legislators to overturn President-elect Joe Biden’s win in the state, a source familiar with the conversation told CNN.”
Georgia Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger: A special session to overturn the state’s election results “would be then nullifying the will of the people.”
Georgia Republican Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan: “Calling the General Assembly back in at this point would almost be along the lines of a solution trying to find a problem. And we’re certainly not going to move the goalposts at this point in the election. We are going to continue to follow the letter of the law, which gives us a very clear-cut direction as to how to execute an election.”
