Last week in Livingston County, out-of-touch millionaire Kevin Rinke used the debate to tout the two major pillars of his wrong-for-Michigan agenda: no reproductive freedoms and severely underfunded critical services.

As he has done several times on the campaign trail, Rinke reiterated his dangerous plans that will harm women and families by supporting the return of a currently dormant law on Michigan’s books from 1931 that criminalizes abortion and makes no exceptions for rape or incest. He previously pledged to “enforce that law of the land” as governor, and doubled down in the debate calling the law “appropriate.”

And in the case of his, “piss-poor public policy proposal,” the used Toyota salesman did not go into detail on his backwards plan to squeeze billions from public schools, law enforcement, health departments, transportation and infrastructure.

In fact, Rinke has never explained how any of these “dramatic” revenue losses would be recovered, and has dodged multiple inquiries attempting to uncover whether he actually “weighed the potential damaging effects of such a plan if enacted.”

When asked on stage which critical services would get the ax, MIRS noted that Rinke “continued to sing that same tune” of “neglect[ing] to list any areas of the budget he would slice and dice.” He instead punted to the legislature to make that call, which the reporting noted revealed Rinke’s concerning ignorance of how the budget process works:

“…As any seasoned Lansing observer will quickly explain, it is first the governor’s job to present a budget to the legislators before the back and forth commences. ‘The governor proposes and the legislature disposes,’ is the mantra for dealing with budgets that, in this case, would include a whooping shortfall of revenue minus the income tax.”

MDP spokesperson Rodericka Applewhaite issued the following statement:

“Out-of-touch millionaire Kevin Rinke still won’t answer basic questions about his disastrous agenda for Michigan that would strip reproductive freedom from women and eliminate the critical services that allow our state to function. Working families deserve to know, down to the penny, which communities, schools, roads, and law enforcement departments Rinke plans on dismantling to get his backwards agenda across the finish line.”
