A year ago today, Trump and his officials ramped up their months-long campaign to lie to the American people and downplay the threat of the coronavirus as cases started spreading in the United States. Fast forward to today, President Biden has listened to the experts and taken the virus seriously from day one, and is now delivering on his vaccine promises.

A year ago today, as coronavirus started to spread in the United States and around the world, Trump was starting his months-long campaign to ignore medical experts and lie about the threat of coronavirus after privately admitting to a journalist of the virus’ threat

Trump on Feb. 25, 2020: “You may ask about the coronavirus, which is very well under control in our country. We have very few people with it, and the people that have it are … getting better. They’re all getting better. … As far as what we’re doing with the new virus, I think that we’re doing a great job.”

Trump on Feb. 25, 2020: “I think that’s a problem that’s going to go away.”

Trump’s officials followed suit, continuing to parrot Trump’s lies to the American people by downplaying the threat of the virus.

Former Trump National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow to CNBC: “‘We have contained this. I won’t say [it’s] airtight, but it’s pretty close to airtight,’ Kudlow told CNBC’s Kelly Evans on ‘The Exchange.’ He added that, while the outbreak is a ‘human tragedy,’ it will likely not be an ‘economic tragedy. There will be some stumbles. We’re looking at numbers; it’s a little iffy,’ Kudlow said. ‘But at the moment … there’s no supply disruptions out there yet.’”

Then Trump campaign spokesperson Kayleigh McEnany to Fox Business: “This President will always put America first, he will always protect American citizens. We will not see diseases like the coronavirus come here. We will not see terrorism come here.”

Today, after listening to medical experts and taking the virus seriously, President Biden has taken steps to rebuild trust and ramp up vaccine distribution, putting him on track to deliver on his vaccine promises.
