LANSING — Earlier this week, MIRS reported that gubernatorial candidate James Craig owns and operates ‘JC Entertainment and Consulting’ a company he established in May in order to “offer himself up for speeches and expert advice.” According to the report, Craig has already fulfilled a number of speaking commitments, allowing him to generate “some income post-retirement as he ran for governor.”

At the same time, MIRS adds Craig’s public accessibility to Michiganders has been “limited,” and it’s “not clear” if paid speeches happened when he promised Michigan he would do a listening tour over the summer, which never materialized.

In reaction to this development, MDP Chair Lavora Barnes today formally called on Craig to release a list of his clients:

“Add this secretive paid speaking company to James Craig’s ever-growing list of parts of his record he’s trying to hide from Michiganders. That already includes failing to become a certified law enforcement officer over the final decade of his career after promising he would and recent attempts to paper over a carjacking he fled from in 2013. Michiganders deserve to know who is paying Craig to speak behind closed doors, and how much they’re paying him and when. We call on Craig to immediately disclose this information in full and without delay so Michiganders can clearly understand just how deeply he’s rooted himself in the pocket of special interests.”
