The Michigan Democratic Party released the following statement on behalf of Chair Lavora Barnes on tonight’s Supreme Court forum.

“Tonight Michiganders had an opportunity to see Justice Bernstein and Representative Kyra Bolden in action as they participated in a Supreme Court forum alongside their opponents. Justice Bernstein and Rep. Bolden demonstrated steady and wise approaches to each question, validating how they would consider cases before the Supreme Court. They listened and answered each question with direct, concise responses that resonated with Michiganders. Given their life and work experiences, returning Justice Bernstein to the bench and sending Rep. Bolden to the Court would be a clear benefit to the entire state.

Judge Zahra had already demonstrated that he has no interest in supporting women by his recent decision to oppose putting the issue of abortion on our ballot in November. This is just one example as to why he is wrong for the Supreme Court. As an activist judge it would be shameful and a disservice to all Michiganders for him to be re-elected. The other two candidates, Mr. Hudson and Mr. Morgan, lack the experience needed to sit on the highest court in Michigan.”
