The Michigan Democratic Party issued the following statement on behalf of Chair Lavora Barnes.
“The majority of Congress did their job today and reaffirmed what the American voters decided in November – Joe Biden will be our President on January 20, 2021. Despite Trump’s attempts to hijack the results of this election, the will of the people prevailed. The GOP has made a mockery of our safe and secure election system; spending tax-payer money to push baseless conspiracy theories that were simply designed to suppress the vote.  But today, despite the barbaric behavior by a group of Americans, democracy won, and these uneducated bullies that used violence as their way of communicating, lost.
Free and fair elections are the cornerstone of our Democracy. We cannot afford to continue to allow the GOP to shake the foundation of our Republic by throwing doubt at a well-tested election system. And for the sake of this country, this debacle, led by Trump, meant to disenfranchise thousands of voters, cannot happen again.  We are committed to ensuring that any Michigan lawmaker that attempted to thwart the outcome of the 2020 election will be held accountable. This includes Congressional members Walberg, Bergman and McClain, who should be ashamed of their willingness to throw away their constituent’s vote so easily. We are watching carefully and will not forget what side of history our elected officials were on during the 2020 elections.”
