This Saturday, MIGOP will hold what’s poised to be the most chaotic endorsement convention to ever take place on either side of the aisle, per reporting from Bridge Michigan:

Michigan Republican Party delegates are getting ready to rumble at a Saturday convention, where they’ll endorse nominees in attorney general and secretary of state races that could define the party this fall and beyond.

At this point, things have gotten so messy that even party leadership can’t downplay it. MIGOP co-chair Meshawn went on record to preview that her party’s convention is “going to be a battle” and even referenced the rampant infighting Michigan Republicans have come to be known for after all 83 counties watched the local chapter screaming matches that went down earlier this month:

The convention is “going to be a battle,” state GOP co-chair Meshawn Maddock told Bridge Michigan in a recent interview. “It’s going to be a difficult day, and I can’t wait until it’s over. I hate the fighting amongst ourselves.”

However, Bridge also pointed out that Maddock is a major reason why the MIGOP has spiraled fully off the sanity axis:

Maddock, the co-chair of the Michigan GOP and a Trump confidant, upended convention orthodoxy last month when she personally endorsed DePerno and Karamo.

The Michigan Republican Party does not back candidates in contested convention races, and top officials usually do not do so either to avoid the appearance of favoritism in a convention election they will oversee.

MDP spokesperson Rodericka Applewhaite issued the following statement:

“Even MIGOP insiders like Meshawn Maddock – a main source of the same chaos she’s complaining about – admit their party is a mess heading into this weekend’s convention and the 2022 midterms. It’s no better at the top of the ticket as the ten gubernatorial candidates expected to make the ballot are taking her lead fighting amongst themselves and pushing dangerous agendas that will hurt Michigan families.”
