Mike Pence is pushing his extremism on abortion to a new level today by calling on Congress to advance his dangerous anti-choice agenda and pass legislation that could pave the way to ban Plan B, some forms of birth control, and access to abortion nationwide with no exceptions for rape or incest. Pence has made his anti-abortion stances the hallmark of his shadow campaign for the 2024 Republican primary – drawing his fellow GOP contenders to showcase their extremism as well as they each compete for the MAGA base.

Headlining the slate of anti-abortion legislation that Pence’s non-profit is calling on Congress to pass is legislation that could open the door to ban Plan B and some forms of birth control.

Advancing American Freedom Agenda: “We are calling on the 118th Congress to reintroduce these important measures and send them to the President’s desk to be enacted.”

TIME: “Fetal personhood laws could also impact contraception access, given that some members of the anti-abortion movement argue that IUDs and the emergency contraception Plan B can prevent the implantation of a fertilized egg and violate personhood, explains Mary Ziegler, an abortion law historian.”

On top of this, the list of proposed legislation also includes an extreme abortion ban that threatens doctors with jail time and has no exceptions for rape or incest.

WESA: “Kelly’s ‘Heartbeat Protection Act’ would essentially ban abortion after the sixth week of pregnancy — a time by which a pregnancy may not even have been detected… the bill provides no exception for pregnancies arising from rape or incest.”

This is just the latest from Pence as he continues to brag about his role in the overturning of Roe v. Wade and insists on fellow Republicans joining his push to ban abortion in every state.

CNN: “Pence recently retweeted a statement from the anti-abortion advocacy organization Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America responding to Trump’s remarks in which the group urged the former president and other potential candidates to articulate an ‘ambitious consensus pro-life position’ and avoid an ‘Ostrich Strategy’ on abortion. ‘Well Said!’ Pence tweeted.”

Politico: “Pence has repeatedly touted and taken credit for the anti-abortion policies of the Trump administration, openly courting the support of anti-abortion groups as he considers a 2024 run.”

Pence is far from the only Republican putting their abortion extremism on display as 2024 GOP hopefuls – including Glenn Younkin, Ron DeSantis, and Kristi Noem – seek to curry favor with the MAGA base by pushing their own anti-choice proposals.

Slate: “Virginia Republicans’ Proposed 15-Week Abortion Ban Is Strikingly Extreme

Florida Politics: “Gov. DeSantis ‘ready to sign’ abortion ‘heartbeat bill’”

CBS: “Gov. Kristi Noem says she would ‘nudge’ GOP governors, including Florida’s Ron DeSantis, to do more to restrict abortion”
