The bar is the floor when it comes to who DeVos sellout Tudor Dixon will cozy up to to raise funds for her cash-strapped campaign. New reporting from Detroit Free Press details she was not only a “featured guest” at a Connecticut fundraiser hosted by Carl Higbie, a Newsmax host who resigned from the Trump Administration after his history of making “racist, anti-Islam, and anti-LGBTQ remarks” surfaced – but attended with prior knowledge of Higbie’s offensive background.

When asked about her awareness of Higbie’s comments, Dixon lied and claimed ignorance both through a spokesperson and directly, then refused to answer if “it would have impacted her decision to attend” regardless.

In reality, Dixon had Higbie as a guest on her “Real America’s Voice” show at least twice and appeared on his Newsmax program three separate times this year alone.

On top of targeting minorities, Higbie also said veterans with PTSD “have weak minds and that 75% of those afflicted were either lying or milking it for federal money.”

Detroit Free Press: Tudor Dixon Featured at Fundraiser Hosted by Trump Official Who Made Racist Comments

By Paul Egan

Republican gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon was the featured guest at a Wednesday fundraiser hosted by a conservative activist who resigned his post in the Trump administration amid a furor over his racist, anti-Islam and anti-LGBTQ remarks.

“So great to host @tudordixon tonight with a fantastic crowd at great patriot’s home,” Carl Higbie posted to Instagram after the Wednesday event in Greenwich, Connecticut. “Here we go MI!!!”

Higbie, host of “Wake Up America Weekend” on the right-wing website Newsmax, has described Black people as lazy, claimed that Islam is “the ideology of a child molester,” and said that veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) have weak minds and that 75% of those afflicted were either lying or milking it for federal money, CNN reported in 2018.

He resigned in 2018 as chief of the Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal agency that manages the volunteer agencies AmeriCorps and Senior Corps, after his public comments, many of them made while hosting the radio program “Sound of Freedom” on internet talk radio, were publicized, CNN reported. […]

An invitation to the “Dixon for Governor” fundraiser, posted online, said: “Carl Higbie cordially invites you to a reception with Tudor Dixon, Republican candidate for governor of Michigan,” at the Greenwich home of Deborah and Richard Pluta.

Despite his billed position as the event’s host, Dixon was not aware of Higbie’s past comments or his resignation from the Trump administration when she attended the fundraiser or posed for the photo, campaign spokeswoman Sara Broadwater said Friday. […]

Dixon, questioned Friday after speaking to the Detroit Economic Club, also said: “I wasn’t aware.” Asked whether it would have impacted her decision to attend the event if she had been aware of Higbie’s history, Dixon did not respond.

Records show Dixon twice had him as a guest on her “Real America’s Voice” cable TV program in 2020 and Higbie interviewed Dixon three times on his Newsmax program in 2022. […]

Maeve Coyle, a spokeswoman for Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s campaign, said it’s concerning Dixon would welcome support “from someone with Higbie’s extensive record of vile and racist remarks, particularly his dangerous comments attacking the Muslim community and pushing violent rhetoric to incite further division.” Dixon “should renounce Carl Higbie and return any money her campaign took from his event,” Coyle said.

In September, Dixon’s running mate, former state Rep. Shane Hernandez of Port Huron, posted a photo of himself and a vendor posing at a farmers market in Michigan’s Thumb area in front of a flag of the Three Percenters movement, an anti-government militia. Hernandez later removed the post, saying he had not noticed the flag and he disavowed any such sentiments.

In 2013, Higbie said on the radio that “the Black race” had “lax” morals and that Black women think “breeding is a form of government employment.”

More recently, after right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones was ordered to pay hundreds of millions of dollars in damages to relatives of Sandy Hook victims for his claims that the 2012 school shooting was a hoax, Higbie posted on Instagram that if Jones had to pay such a huge sum in damages, “how much can I sue all the media and those that peddled the vaccine with falsehoods that it stopped the spread. Never forget those same folks tried to have us fired and exiled.”

Dixon, a cancer survivor who told the Free Press she received the COVID-19 vaccine, has become increasingly anti-vaccine in her recent public statements.

On Thursday, Dixon said on Twitter she would “move to ban Michigan schools from adding COVID-19 vaccines to the required list.”
