Republican governors started off the new year the way they spent last year: taking credit for President Biden’s American Rescue Plan. We agree with them, the American Rescue Plan is delivering critical funding to their home states to lift states out of a devastating pandemic, but they seem to think we forgot they adamantly opposed the plan

Don’t be fooled by Republican governors bragging about funding delivered from the American Rescue Plan, President Biden and Democrats are the ones who delivered for their states:

  • Florida Governor Ron DeSantis used his 2022 State of the State address to brag about his billion-dollar gas tax holiday proposal and bonuses for teachers and first responders, both of which were funded by (you guessed it) the American Rescue Plan.

  • Despite decrying federal stimulus funds, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem tapped into funding from the American Rescue Plan to finance water projects, housing affordability, and day care in her budget.

  • In Iowa, Governor Kim Reynolds touted investments in broadband, housing, and water quality without mentioning, the funding came from the American Rescue Plan.

  • In his 2022 State of the State address, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey announced the launch of a summer learning initiative for students impacted by COVID-19 – funded by funds from the American Rescue Plan.
