Twelve years ago today, President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act into law – and to quote President Biden, it’s still “a big f***ing deal.” While Democrats celebrate the 12th anniversary of this historic, overwhelmingly popular legislation that now provides health care coverage for more than 30 million Americans and provided protections to more than 100 million Americans living with preexisting conditions, the Republican Party has once again made repealing the ACA a key plank of their agenda.

Republicans keep saying the quiet part out loud – The GOP agenda would gut coverage, make health care more expensive, and do nothing to lower drug costs for the American people:

Washington Post: “Sen. Ron Johnson says Obamacare should be repealed if GOP wins power back”

MSNBC: “Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), who has previously negotiated a plan to lower prescription drug costs with Finance Committee Chair Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), admitted during a committee hearing it would likely be hard to pass if his own party regained control of Congress. He called on Democrats to pass it now.”

Washington Post’s Milbank: “Scott’s plan would also sunset — eliminate — all federal legislation over five years, under the (risky) assumption that worthy laws would be reenacted. That could mean an end to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, everything else mentioned above — and potentially more.”

And Democrats will continue to make sure voters know health care is on the ballot:

The Hill: “DNC launches ad hitting Republicans over Ron Johnson health care comments in key states”

The Hill: “More recently, Democrats have pounced on comments from Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), in which the incumbent senator said he would like to see the Affordable Care Act repealed if Republicans win back control of the White House and Congress in 2024.”
