Throughout the Month of August, Bus will Travel Across the Country to Highlight How Democrats are Delivering for Working Families
Today, the Democratic National Committee’s “Build Back Better” bus tour made a stop in San Antonio, Texas with Mayor Ron Nirenberg, Congressman Joaquin Castro, and former HUD Secretary Julián Castro. During the stop, the speakers highlighted how President Biden and Democrats are delivering for the American people with the creation of more than four million jobs, tax cuts for middle-class families, and lower health care costs.

“The Build Back Better agenda aligns deeply with San Antonio’s local economic recovery efforts. From housing assistance to creating thousands of well-paying jobs, investing in our working families will permanently alter the course of a city and a nation. We’re ready to work,” said Mayor Ron Nirenberg.

“Democrats in Congress are working on a once in a generation investment in our nation’s infrastructure and working people, including expanding a tax cut for families to lift millions of children out of poverty. These investments in not only roads and public transit, but health care and education  — what I call the infrastructure of opportunity — will enable San Antonio families to finally get ahead. I’m looking forward to delivering progress for the people of Texas,” said Congressman Joaquin Castro.

“In a time of tremendous need, Democrats have delivered critical relief to Texas families. The investments we’ve made have helped millions afford their rents and mortgages, put food on the table, and pay down their student debt. The expansion of the Child Tax Credit alone will help the families of more than 5 million children in Texas. . Democrats will keep fighting for a healthier, fairer, and more prosperous future for Texans and all Americans,” said former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro.

“The American Rescue Plan has been a life-saving piece of legislation,” said Councilwoman Ana E. Sandoval. “Or, as I like to say, it’s 1.9 trillion rays of sunshine at a very dark time. This pandemic has put many people’s lives at risk, and for many, it also put their homes at risk…But, because of the American Rescue Plan, here in San Antonio, we have been providing thousands of San Antonians in need with the help they need to stay in their homes, pay their utilities, their water and their light bills.”
