New reporting highlights how, when he was fearful for his life, Kevin McCarthy blamed Donald Trump for the mob he incited to attack the Capitol and try to overturn an election. Mere days later, though, McCarthy reminded America how cowardly and desperate for power he is by making his pilgrimage to Mar-a-Lago to pose with Donald Trump.
On a phone call with Trump on January 6, McCarthy unloaded on Trump about the attack on the Capitol — confronting him on his complicity, yelling obscenities, and saying that MAGA insurrectionists were “trying to… kill me.”
Business Insider: “Kevin McCarthy angrily confronted Donald Trump in a phone call on Jan. 6, a new book says. He told Trump his supporters were ‘trying to f*****g kill me,’ per author Robert Draper.”
Politico: “‘Well, Kevin,’ President Trump said to McCarthy by phone shortly before three in the afternoon on January 6, ‘I guess these people are more upset about the election than you are.’
“‘More upset?’ McCarthy yelled back incredulously, according to an account he gave a few hours later to a Republican colleague. ‘THEY’RE TRYING TO F*****G KILL ME!’”
But since then, McCarthy has debased himself, elevating MAGA extremists and doing anything to appease Trump, even if it means covering up for the January 6 attack.

It’s all crystal clear: McCarthy has spent months hypocritically putting his own interests ahead of protecting American democracy in a thinly veiled attempt to gain power.
