MDP Chair Lavora Barnes issued the following statement in response to a thorough review conducted by Michigan Bureau of Elections which determined that Republican gubernatorial candidates submitted tens of thousands of fraudulent signatures, enough to disqualify several from the August primary ballot:

“Thanks to the tireless work and unprecedented, thorough review undertaken by career civil servants, the Bureau of Elections found that the problems of fraud and forgery were endemic across the entire Republican gubernatorial primary field.

“All of the candidates who submitted fraudulent signatures – including James Craig, Perry Johnson, and Tudor Dixon – should do the right thing and immediately withdraw from the race. Their refusal to adhere to Michigan election law is disqualifying. If they refuse to withdraw, the Board of Canvassers should examine these significant, disqualifying issues thoroughly and make a decision that upholds the integrity of Michigan’s electoral process by refusing to certify these candidates.

“Michigan families deserve better than an irresponsible, radical slate of candidates who have repeatedly refused accountability for their lawless campaigns.”
