| Stop us if you’ve heard this before, but Republicans have truly sold out their party to Donald Trump. Just yesterday, a new report from the Washington Post revealed that more than a year after Trump lost the House, Senate, and was voted out of office, the RNC is *still* paying for his personal legal fees. No matter how Republicans try to spin this, Donald Trump owns the Republican Party from the top down.
The Republican Party continues to helpfully remind voters they are beholden to Trump, the leader of their party. Washington Post: “RNC agrees to pay some of Trump’s legal bills in N.Y. criminal investigation” Newsweek: “RNC Paying Donald Trump’s Legal Bills Reveals GOP Remains Hitched to Former President” Business Insider: “The RNC paid more than $121,000 towards former President Donald Trump’s personal legal bills as he faces a criminal investigation in New York.” CNN: “A spokeswoman for the RNC said in a statement that its ‘Executive Committee approved paying for certain legal expenses that relate to politically motivated legal proceedings waged against President Trump. As a leader of our party, defending President Trump and his record of achievement is critical to the GOP,’ she added.” The Hill: “The Democratic National Committee (DNC) spokesperson Adonna Biel said the RNC is now ‘a party that will do anything for a divisive and incompetent ex-president who cost their party the House, Senate, and White House and thousands of Americans their lives and livelihoods. If we were the RNC’s donors, we would certainly be asking questions,’ DNC spokesperson Biel added.” |
