As Republicans continue their holiday attacks, with Thanksgiving as the most recent target, we’re here to remind folks what things looked like this time last year, when Donald Trump was president. So this Thanksgiving, when we’re going around the table answering the age-old question: What are you thankful for? The answer this year is pretty clear: We’re not living in Donald Trump’s America anymore.

For starters, this time last year, we couldn’t even gather with our family members because of Donald Trump’s botched COVID response:

Vox: “Thanksgiving 2020 couldn’t come at a more dangerous time, or pose more serious risks for coronavirus spread.”

CNN: “Now, as Thanksgiving quickly approaches, health experts are worried holiday gatherings — even if they are not large in size — could result in massive spreading nationwide.”

New York Times: “C.D.C. Pleads With Americans to Stay Home on Thanksgiving”

We also had record-breaking lines at food banks as millions of families faced food scarcity, thanks again to Donald Trump’s botched COVID response:

Fox News: “Food bank lines build before Thanksgiving as more Americans go hungry”

The Hill: “Long lines form at food banks across country ahead of Thanksgiving”

CBS News: “Thousands in Texas line up in cars to receive food before Thanksgiving”

So as Republicans continue to run their mouths and fearmonger about Thanksgiving under President Biden, let’s take a look to see what things ACTUALLY look like:

Bloomberg: “U.S. consumer confidence rose in October for the first time in four months as concerns around the delta variant eased…Consumers were more optimistic about their future income and job prospects.”

Reuters: “U.S. weekly jobless claims hit 19-month low as labor market tightens”

Census Bureau: “Three in 10 families that received monthly Advance Child Tax Credit (CTC) payments spent them on kids’ school expenses, and 1 in 4 families with young children used them to cover child care costs, according to new results from the U.S. Census Bureau’s experimental Household Pulse Survey (HPS).”
