After meeting with the ultra-conversative Republican Study Committee this morning to unveil the GOP’s extreme 2022 agenda, Mike Pence is headed to Florence, South Carolina to promote his plan for a “post-Roe world.”

“Mike Pence is leading Republicans’ charge to make abortion illegal across the country, punish doctors, and now apparently taking issue with abortion pills,” said DNC Spokesperson Ammar Moussa. “Pence’s speech in Florence will provide a roadmap for Republicans across the country as they work tirelessly to strip away Americans’ fundamental rights — but Democrats will fight back and ensure voters across the country hear about Republicans’ extreme agenda.”

Pence is pushing an extreme plan that would ban medicated abortion pills. These are the same pills used to treat women who are suffering miscarriages — and MAGA Republicans like Pence are trying to take away Americans’ access to reproductive health care.

CNN: “… Pence’s speech will feature a new policy blueprint for conservatives to follow in the post-Roe environment and respond directly to an executive order signed by Biden last Friday directing the Department of Health and Human Services to safeguard access to medicated abortion pills… [Pence’s] group Advancing American Freedom released a video highlighting his record of promoting anti-abortion policies and judges — both as governor of Indiana and in the Trump administration.”

This comes as news broke that a Texas woman was forced to carry her dead fetus for two weeks because doctors there are nervous about performing medical procedures that could be punished under Texas’s draconian abortion ban.

CNN: “Texas woman speaks out after being forced to carry her dead fetus for 2 weeks”

New York Times: “Surgical procedures and medication for miscarriages are identical to those for abortion, and some patients report delayed or denied miscarriage care because doctors and pharmacists fear running afoul of abortion bans.”

If you needed a reminder of Pence’s record on abortion:

Mike Pence has long believed that Roe v. Wade should be sent to “the ash heap of history.”

July 2016: “[If Trump is elected] we’ll see Roe vs. Wade consigned to the ash heap of history where it belongs.”

February 2011: “I long for the day that Roe v. Wade is sent to the ash heap of history”

Mike Pence bragged about the Trump administration’s anti-choice record and his role in casting a tie-breaking vote to defund Planned Parenthood.

May 2018: “I’m pro-life and I don’t apologize for it and I couldn’t be more honored to serve shoulder to shoulder with the most pro-life president in my lifetime. President Donald Trump has taken one step after another to affirm this administration’s commitment to the sanctity of life.”

June 2019: “I was honored to cast the tie-breaking vote and to watch the President sign legislation that allowed states across the country to defund Planned Parenthood.”

Mike Pence touted the Trump administration’s success in appointing Supreme Court Justices Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Coney Barrett as well as other anti-abortion federal judges.

February 2018: “This President has been busy appointing strict constructionists to our federal courts at every level including Justice Neil Gorsuch on the Supreme Court of the United States. These are men and women that will uphold the God-given liberties enshrined in our Constitution, and there’s more to come.”

December 2020: “[Trump] said, and he promised, ‘I will appoint judges that will be pro-life.’ And that’s just what he’s done… With yesterday’s confirmation of the judge who will fill the seat of the newest justice on the Supreme Court, President Trump has appointed more than 220 conservatives to our federal courts at every level, including Justice Neil Gorsuch, Justice Brett Kavanaugh, and Justice Amy Coney Barrett.”

As governor of Indiana, Mike Pence signed anti-choice legislation into law every year of his tenure.

New York Times: “Since his election as governor, in 2012, [Pence] has signed anti-abortion measures every year he has been in office.”

Pence in August 2012: “If the Legislature sends me pro-life legislation, I’ll sign it.”

Let’s be clear: Mike Pence has long been one of the most extreme voices on abortion within the Republican Party. His plans to ban abortion pills are nothing short of an assault on women’s rights and health care. Americans cannot afford Pence’s dangerous, anti-choice agenda.
