Arkansas GOP Senator Tom Cotton is traveling to Iowa today previewing the MAGA Republican agenda and what is sure to be a messy 2024 primary for Republicans. As Cotton heads to Iowa, Iowans deserve to know what he is sure to forget to mention about his record.
Cotton repeatedly voted against legislation Iowa farmers rely on.
The Washington Times: “Cotton only Ark. congressman to oppose farm bill”
Northwest Arkansas Democrat Gazette: “The United States Senate on Tuesday approved a new farm bill, legislation that would guide the country’s agriculture and nutrition policy over the next five years… U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton, a Republican from Dardanelle, joined 12 other Republicans in voting ‘no.’”
Cotton voted for the GOP tax cuts that gave huge tax breaks to big corporations and the wealthiest Americans.
The Wall Street Journal: “The Biggest Winners Of The Republican Tax Plan Are Corporations.”
Washington Post: “Republicans Are Paying For A Permanent Cut For Corporations With An Under-The-Radar Tax Increase On Individuals.”
Cotton vowed the overturning of Roe v. Wade is just the beginning, and touted Arkansas’s trigger ban that included no exceptions for rape or incest.
COTTON: “Winning in the courts and in Congress is of course a part of an essential path to victory. When Roe falls, a great injustice will be rectified, a great rebuke to our nation’s values will be reconciled, and millions of innocent souls will be saved. But even on that day, our work as a movement will not be complete.”
COTTON: “I commend @AGRutledge for her efforts to protect the unborn in Arkansas. This is a momentous day.”
Cotton has been an advocate for a war on women, aiming to further restrict reproductive rights and opposing the Violence Against Women Act.
COTTON: “I’ve also supported a bill that would declare that life begins at conception and, as we continue in our efforts to protect the unborn, a bill that stops abortions after the fetus is capable of feeling pain.”
2022: Tom Cotton voted against the omnibus spending bill that included reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act.
Cotton voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act with no replacement and leave millions more without coverage.
The New York Times: Tom Cotton voted in favor of the Obamacare Repeal and Reconciliation Act and The Health Care Freedom Act.
Tom Cotton in 2017: “So I believe that we’d be able to send this bill straight to the President for his signature. Now the phase in is two years out, so you know, it repeals the legislation now, and then it gives us a couple of years to craft a solution.”
