Republicans’ Georgia disarray was already dragging down their Senate candidates — but Trump’s latest announcement on the coronavirus relief package once again throws a wrench into the GOP’s Senate campaigns in the state.
From David Bergstein, DNC Director of Battleground State Communications: “Georgia Republicans have spent the entire runoff in disarray, and this latest development will continue to drag down Senators Perdue and Loeffler’s desperate campaigns at the worst possible time for them.”
See for yourself:
Atlanta Journal-Constitution: “This is unwelcome news for Sens. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue… It plays directly into the arguments from Democrats Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock.”
Fox News: “Trump… throws wrench into Georgia Senate race.”
The Washington Times: “President Trump could be making life harder for Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler in their runoff races in Georgia after announcing Tuesday the coronavirus relief package that the Republican Senators touted as a big win falls far short of his own expectations.”
Associated Press: “Trump’s threats to hold up the pandemic legislation could also complicate matters for Republicans in Georgia, where two runoff races to determine control of the Senate will be held in January.”
Bloomberg: “Opposing the bill, however, creates a difficult situation for Republican Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler seeking re-election in Georgia’s Jan. 5 runoff races.”
