Trump Crazily Rambles About Election Fraud Nonsense As Opposition To His Efforts Grow
At his Georgia rally last night, Trump doubled down on his efforts to try to pressure Republicans to subvert the will of the people as he crazily rambled about the same repeatedly debunked election fraud nonsense. Meanwhile, opposition to Trump’s efforts continues to grow from military leaders, business leaders, and even many Republicans.
At his rally in Georgia, Trump crazily rambled about his election defeat and continued to push the same debunked election fraud nonsense.
CNN’s John Harwood: “Trump rambling crazily”
Washington Post’s Glenn Kessler: “Trump now spewing a bunch of QAnon election fraud nonsense. How far can he go? There is no bottom.”
CNN’s Daniel Dale: “Trump is doing his usual election lies, which are both too bonkers and too boring to repeat.”
The Daily Beast: “Trump Tries to Rave, Rage and Bluff Past the Facts in Georgia”
Trump defended his call to pressure Georgia’s Republican secretary of state to “find” votes and tried to pressure even more Republicans, including Mike Pence, who will have to choose between Trump and the Constitution.
TRUMP: “Everyone loved my phone call.”
TRUMP: “I hope that Mike Pence comes through for us… if he doesn’t come through, I won’t like him quite as much.”
New York Times: “Two people briefed on the discussions said Mr. Trump had directly pressed Mr. Pence to find an alternative to certifying Mr. Biden’s win, such as preventing him from having 270 electoral votes and letting the election be thrown to the House to decide… One person close to Mr. Pence described Wednesday’s duties as gut-wrenching, saying that he would need to balance the president’s misguided beliefs about government with his own years of preaching deference to the Constitution.”
CNN’s Kaitlan Collins: “Trump is not so discreetly pressuring Sen. Mike Lee, who is in attendance at this rally, to join those saying they’ll object Wednesday. He hasn’t so far.”
Meanwhile, opposition to Trump’s efforts continues to grow from military leaders, business leaders, and even many Republicans.
Bloomberg: “More Republicans Reject Effort to Disrupt Biden’s Certification”
Washington Post: “Almost 200 of the country’s top business leaders urged Congress to certify the electoral results for President-elect Joe Biden in a letter Monday, arguing that ‘attempts to thwart or delay this process run counter to the essential tenets of our democracy.’”
Washington Post: “All 10 living former defense secretaries: Involving the military in election disputes would cross into dangerous territory”
U.S. Chamber of Commerce: “Efforts by some members of Congress to disregard certified election results in an effort to change the election outcome or to try a make a long-term political point undermines our democracy and the rule of law and will only result in further division across our nation.”
