Today, Trump will sign an executive order on vaccines that his own administration can’t even explain at a “Vaccine Summit” that is nothing more than a public relations stunt. This comes a day after it was reported that the Trump administration passed on buying additional vaccine doses and as Trump has refused to do anything to contain the virus or even acknowledge its deadly surge across the country.

Trump’s vaccine chief said he doesn’t know what Trump’s executive order on vaccines would do.

Trump’s vaccine chief: “Frankly, I don’t know. And frankly, I’m staying out of this. I can’t comment. I literally don’t know.”

The White House itself did not provide any details on what Trump’s executive order will actually do.

CNN: “But on a call with reporters Monday evening, in which administration officials asked not to be identified publicly, the White House did not provide specifics on how the order will do that.”

CNBC: “The White House and the HHS did not immediately provide details of the executive order.”

New York Times: “The order appears to have no real teeth and does not expand the U.S. supply of doses, according to a description of the order on Monday by senior administration officials.”

Two coronavirus vaccine manufacturers refused to attend Trump’s “Vaccine Summit” that is nothing more than a PR stunt.

STAT News: “Both Pfizer and Moderna, the two major drug manufacturers likely to receive emergency authorizations for a Covid-19 vaccine in the coming weeks, have rejected invitations from President Trump to appear at a White House ‘Vaccine Summit’ on Tuesday, according to two sources familiar with the event’s planning. … The vaccine manufacturers’ absences will be conspicuous at a ‘Vaccine Summit,’ an event that drug industry figures and one Trump administration official largely viewed as a public relations stunt when STAT first reported the event last week.”

The Trump administration passed on buying additional doses of Pfizer’s vaccine, and now the U.S. may not be able to get more until mid-2021.

New York Times: “Trump administration officials passed when Pfizer offered in late summer to sell the U.S. government additional doses of its Covid-19 vaccine, according to people familiar with the matter. Now Pfizer may not be able provide more of its vaccine to the United States until next June because of its commitments to other countries, they said.”

As Trump tries to take credit for the vaccines, he has done nothing to help contain the virus or even acknowledge the deadly surge in cases.

USA Today: “Trump has repeatedly credited Operation Warp Speed, his administration’s public-private coronavirus response initiative, for the record development of vaccines but has not acknowledged a deadly surge in COVID-19 cases that’s led to more than 282,000 deaths in the U.S.”

The Hill: “The United States just recorded its highest weekly COVID-19 death toll as it experiences a surge in cases.”
