Donald Trump said it himself: Without him, none of the extreme abortion bans being pushed by MAGA Republicans across the country would be possible. With Trump now closing in on the Republican nomination and admitting his support for a nationwide ban, we’re reminding voters of the severe consequences of his anti-choice extremism and what is at stake for women across America in this election, state by state.

As MAGA Republicans in Michigan and across the country try to rip away women’s freedoms as a result of Donald Trump’s actions to overturn Roe v. Wade, DNC National Press Secretary Sarafina Chitika released the following statement:

“Donald Trump’s support for a nationwide abortion ban would overturn the will of millions of Michiganders who voted to protect abortion rights after Trump’s handpicked justices reversed Roe v. Wade. With Trump and his MAGA allies hellbent on a nationwide ban, the stakes of November’s election could not be higher for Michiganders’ rights – and that’s why they will once again vote to protect their freedoms by reelecting President Biden and Vice President Harris.”

Despite Michiganders voting to protect abortion rights, MAGA Republicans in the state have not let up on their cruel anti-abortion agenda.

The ‘Gander: “Michiganders protected abortion after Roe. Republicans are plotting a reversal.”

“There’s a high-stakes legal battle before the US Supreme Court over access to abortion medication which threatens to curtail access to the drug—even in states like Michigan, where abortion still remains legal and fully protected under the state Constitution.

“And even more could be at stake in this year’s elections. Anti-abortion Republicans are hoping to regain complete control of Congress in 2025, and a second Trump term could lead to sweeping, nationwide restrictions on abortion care. Republican operatives have crafted an expansive blueprint that lays out in detail how they intend to leverage virtually every arm, tool, and agency of the federal government to attack abortion access—including by banning and criminalizing access to abortion medication.”

Trump is demanding credit for the extreme abortion bans that MAGA Republicans have passed around the country and continues to brag about his efforts to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Trump: “For 54 years they were trying to get Roe v. Wade terminated, and I did it, and I’m proud to have done it. … Nobody else was going to get that done but me, and we did it, and we did something that was a miracle.”

Trump: “After 50 years of failure, with nobody coming even close, I was able to kill Roe v. Wade, much to the ‘shock’ of everyone … Without me there would be no 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 15 weeks, or whatever is finally agreed to. Without me the pro Life movement would have just kept losing. Thank you President TRUMP!!!”

FWIW: “This week, we found more evidence that the Trump campaign has no interest in ‘moderating’ on the issue of abortion. On Monday, his team began running new Facebook video ads targeting voters in Iowa, referring to Trump as ‘THE MOST Pro-Life President in history.’”

Trump: “I’m the one that got rid of Roe v. Wade, and everybody said that was an impossible thing to do. I put on three Supreme Court justices. Very few people have had that privilege or honor.”

Trump: “Getting rid of Roe v. Wade was an incredible thing for pro-life because it gave pro-life something to negotiate with. Pro-life had absolutely nothing, being stuck in Roe v. Wade, to negotiate with. … And look, everybody that was president wanted to get rid and tried to get rid of Roe v. Wade … For fifty years, this has been going on. I was able to do it, and I was very honored to do it.”

Trump supports a national abortion ban and has an extreme anti-abortion record.

Trump on if he would sign a six-week national abortion ban: “I’m looking at all [options].”

Trump: “We’ll pick something that’s going to be very, very good for pro-life … I’m going to be in there pushing.”

Trump: “There has to be some form of punishment [for women who have abortions].”

The Hill: “The Trump administration formally backed a House bill Monday that would ban abortions after 20 weeks. … It would make it a crime to perform or attempt an abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy, with the possibility of a fine, up to five years in prison or both.”

Nikki Haley said she would sign any nationwide abortion ban and has pledged her support for extreme abortion bans before many women know they’re pregnant.

Kirsten Welker: “Would you support a 15-week federal limit?”

Haley: “I would support anything that would pass.”

Haley: “Whatever we can get 60 Senate votes on, isn’t that better than what we have now? And if it’s– if it’s six weeks, that’s great. If it’s 15 weeks, that’s great.”

Haley: “The debate that we’re having in this country is … can there be a federal law that deals with abortion … I do think there’s a place for federal law.”

Bob Vander Plaats: “If you were governor of South Carolina and that came to your desk, would you sign the heartbeat bill?”

Haley: “Yes.”

Haley: “If the people decided they wanted a six-week abortion bill, would you go along with it? Of course.”
