Ahead of Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds’s Republican response to the State of the Union. DNC spokesperson Ammar Moussa released the following statement:

“Tonight’s Republican response from Governor Kim Reynolds guarantees to be nothing more than breathless lies and shameless credit seeking for President Biden and Democrats’ work to rebuild our economy. It’s no surprise Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy would choose Reynolds to deliver their response as she prioritizes tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations over funding for Iowa’s public schools. Reynolds would be better served if she thanked President Biden and Democrats for passing the American Rescue Plan, which created millions of jobs, put more money in the pockets of Americans, helped reopen schools, and led one of the fastest economic recoveries in history instead of hypocritically trying to take credit for legislation she opposed.”

Just like her national colleagues, Kim Reynolds has been a champion for corporations — pushing for huge tax giveaways for the wealthiest Iowans and big businesses.

  • Iowa Public Radio: “Iowa Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds is proposing corporate tax cuts as part of her tax plan, the details of which were released this week.”

Like other Republican lawmakers, Reynolds has shamelessly tried to take credit for the American Rescue Plan – which she and every single Republican in Congress opposed.

  • Sioux CIty Journal: “Gov. Kim Reynolds has made it abundantly clear she’s not happy with the $1.9 trillion pandemic relief bill that passed the U.S. House Saturday.”

  • Des Moines Register: “Gov. Kim Reynolds uses $200 million in federal COVID recovery funding for broadband grants”

  • Iowa Starting Line: “Gov. Kim Reynolds and Iowa Republicans rallied against President Joe Biden’s signature COVID relief package, but are now championing a $200 million investment in broadband for the state, which was made possible by the federal American Rescue Plan.”
