Membership Matters
The Michigan Democratic Party (MDP) is a membership organization composed of independent units at the Precinct, County, District and State level in a bottom-up management structure that provides all members an equal voice in developing party platforms.
The Van Buren County Democratic Party is the MDP unit serving Van Buren County. As a resident of Van Buren County, when you join the MDP you become a member of the VBCDP. Please join us to help elect Democrats at all levels of government to implement these principles.
MDP membership is open to all Michigan residents age 16 and older, and all who apply for membership are accepted. To ensure equal opportunity for all, financial contributions are not required for MDP membership.
Both the MDP and the VBCDP are financially independent and self-funding and all members are encouraged to support both the state and local party with membership donations in amounts and frequency of their choosing.
Donations to the MDP help fund statewide operations and state level staff. The MDP’s baseline suggested annual membership donation is $10.00.
Donations to the VBCDP help fund local county party operations and to support local candidates. There is no suggested annual membership donation but VBCDP members are encouraged to consider becoming monthly sustaining donors. Even small monthly donations help us set our budget.
One of these two options is REQUIRED for membership applications to the MDP

Six Reasons To Join
1. Be Ready for Every Election
Don’t wait for big elections to get involved. We’re always working to be ready—whether it’s for a local race or a statewide vote. Local volunteers help us stay strong and organized all the time.
2. Help Spread the Word
We share news and events through our website, email, and social media. But the best way people hear things is still by talking to each other. The more people who join, the more we can share what’s going on in local politics.
3. Support Local Leaders
Running for local office is a great way to grow future leaders. We help people run for important local jobs like School Board and County Commissioner.
4. Make a Difference Together
Real change starts when regular people get involved. When we work together, we can show state and national leaders that local issues matter—even if they’re not in the news.
5. Have a Say in the Party
Members help make big decisions at yearly meetings. You can vote on the party’s direction or even run to be a delegate and help lead the Democratic Party.
6. Get Noticed
When our local group is strong, the State and National Democratic Party pay attention. That means more help and support for Van Buren County.
