Louisiana could receive up to $73.4 million for electric vehicle chargers under a new infrastructure law.

The U.S. Department of Transportation announced Thursday that nearly $5 billion would be made available to states under the new National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program.

The law, established by the Biden Administration, would build out a national electric vehicle charging network to making electric vehicle (EV) charging accessible to all Americans.

In Michigan: The Detroit News: Michigan to get $16.3 million from feds to build electric vehicle chargers

Michigan is expected to receive $16.3 million to build electric vehicle chargers, the Biden administration announced Thursday. 

It’s the first round out of nearly $5 billion in formula funding over five years to build a nationwide network of DC fast chargers, approved as a part of the new bipartisan infrastructure law.

Officials expect the funding to hit state coffers in August or September, after state spending plans are approved by federal officials. 

The chargers should be primarily along “alternative fuel corridors” designated by the Federal Highway Administration that can quickly accommodate chargers.

In North Carolina: Fox8: Feds to build electric-vehicle charging stations along interstate highways

The federal program announced today, part of the $1 billion bipartisan infrastructure bill approved by Congress last year, requires states to have such plans in place before they can tap into the $615 million that is available this year. That’s how North Carolina was designated to receive $16,137,196.

In Ohio: WKBN: Biden providing $140M for EV charging stations in Ohio

The U.S. Department of Transportation announced in a press release Thursday that the Biden administration will be providing $140.1 million to go towards an electronic vehicle charging network for Ohio.

The release states that $5 billion will be available under the new National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program to usher in electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

In Pennsylvania: WHTM: Infrastructure Law gives Pa. $171.5 million for EV chargers

“Americans need to know that they can purchase an electric vehicle and find convenient charging when they are using Interstates and other major highways,” said Deputy Federal Highway Administrator Stephanie Pollack. “The new EV formula program will provide states with the resources they need to provide their residents with reliable access to an EV charging station as they travel.”

In Texas: Houston Chronicle: Biden moves to build coast to coast network of electric car chargers

The Biden administration is moving to create a nationwide network of electric vehicle chargers that would enable Americans to drive long distances without concern for running out of power.

With $5 billion in funding from last year’s bipartisan infrastructure bill, the administration is asking states to submit plans for developing electric charging routes along interstates and state highways. Texas, with its vast network of roadways, is expected to get more than $400 million in funding, more than any other state.

“A century ago, America ushered in the modern automotive era; now America must lead the electric vehicle revolution,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said in a statement.

Charging stations for electric vehicles are few and far between, unlike gas stations. But that may change soon if President Joe Biden’s plan is successful.

According to Reuters, the U.S. Department of Energy and Transportation announced on Thursday that it will roll out $5 billion over the next five years to help states set up more charging stations for electric cars in an effort to hit zero emissions from vehicles.

The goal of the program is to make EV charging accessible to all Americans.
