LANSING — Donald Trump is in Michigan today, and his visit shines a spotlight on the “division” in the “fractured” GOP Senate primary and on Mike Rogers’ decision to play partisan games at the expense of America’s safety and security.

Even with Trump’s endorsement of him, Rogers has faced “immediate condemnation” from Republicans. 25 of the 60 Michigan RNC delegates have signed a resolution urging Trump to rescind his endorsement of Rogers, and “1,100 members of a group called Rescue Michigan signed a letter” urging Trump to endorse someone else.

The turbulence Rogers faces comes as he has decided to put scoring political points ahead of standing up for Michiganders. Rogers claimed that the bipartisan border bill “didn’t correct any of the problems.” In reality, it was “one of the toughest border and immigration laws in modern history” and the “most conservative border bill in decades” backed by border patrol agents and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce that would’ve strengthened the border and stopped the flow of fentanyl into the country. 

Here’s what you need to know about how Trump has added more fuel to the fire in the “brutal” Republican Senate primary: 

• While Rogers claims that the primary is “done” following Trump’s endorsement, and “any kicking, screaming, biting, throwing rocks isn’t going to change that,” Republicans would say the contrary. 

• 25 of the 60 Michigan RNC delegates have signed a resolution urging Trump to rescind his endorsement of Rogers, and “1,100 members of a group called Rescue Michigan signed a letter” urging Trump to endorse someone else.

• Justin Amash said the quiet part out loud, saying “Trump supporters can’t stand” “total loser” Rogers and it’s “laughable” to think they’d support Rogers. Amash hit Trump for making a “classically bad choice” endorsing Rogers.

• Rand Paul “ripped” Trump for endorsing Rogers, saying “you have to ask yourself who gives Trump this awful advice?”

• Detroit News’ conservative assistant editorial editor Kaitlyn Buss notes that the “division is not likely to soon close,” and “Republicans stand to lose” this race.

• Republicans protested outside of a Rogers fundraiser and urged Trump to “listen” and rescind his endorsement of “Deep State RINO” Rogers.

• Trump ally Roger Stone called “corrupt Deep State” Rogers the “most dangerous” “phony running for office.” 

• “Many in Trump’s orbit” think that Rogers would “lose the general election.” One Trump ally even went as far to say that “everyone thinks [Rogers is] the worst endorsement [Trump has] made this cycle.”
