Following the New York Times’ reporting on Donald Trump’s taxes, Democrats across the battlegrounds slammed Trump for breaking his promises to working families — prioritizing the interests of the wealthy and well-connected like himself at the expense of working families, just like he did with the Republican tax scam. In Arizona:
Arizona Democratic Party Chair Felecia Rotellini: “Donald Trump seems to think he can play by a different set of rules than the rest of Americans. While Arizona’s hard-working teachers, nurses, and firefighters were paying their fair share, Trump exploited loopholes to pay just $750 in federal income taxes — while pushing through a tax scam that overwhelmingly benefited the wealthy and well-connected like himself. Arizonans are ready for leaders like Joe Biden and Kamala Harris who will play by the rules and stand up to special interests — because they know public service is about serving the American people, not ripping them off.”
In Florida:
Florida Democratic Party Chair Terrie Rizzo: “This report makes clear once again that Donald Trump’s motto has always been: Trump first, Americans last. While Trump raised taxes on millions of middle class families and gave a massive handout to his Mar-a-Lago crowd, he paid just $750 in his first year in office. The average American pays more than $8,000 a year in federal taxes while Trump pays $750. He benefits from our domestic tranquility, our common defense, our general welfare, and the blessings of our liberties without contributing to them.”
Joyce Barlow, Democratic Candidate for House District 151: “While Donald Trump gets away with paying $750 in taxes, the people of my district lack basic access to health care and the resources to provide for their families during this pandemic. Coronavirus hit Southwest Georgia with a resounding punch, and even while we recover, we are on the brink of another rural hospital shuttering.”
In Michigan:
