With Trump now closing in on the Republican nomination, we’re reminding voters of the severe consequences of his anti-choice extremism and what is at stake for women across America in this election, state by state.
As MAGA Republicans in Georgia and across the country try to rip away women’s freedoms as a result of Donald Trump’s actions to overturn Roe v. Wade, DNC National Press Secretary Sarafina Chitika released the following statement:
“Because of Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn Roe v. Wade, Georgia Republicans have banned abortion before many women know they’re pregnant and introduced a bill threatening to throw women in jail for exercising their right to choose. This horrifying reality for women is what Trump wanted — he said women should be punished for choosing to have an abortion and paved the way for Roe to be reversed. As Trump continues to demand credit for extreme abortion bans like the one in Georgia, President Biden and Vice President Harris are running to protect women’s freedoms from Republicans trying to strip them away — and the stakes of this election couldn’t be higher.”
Georgia Republicans have banned abortion before many women even know they’re pregnant, introduced a bill that threatens women with jail time, and want to remove exceptions for rape, incest, and health of the mother.

Washington Post: “Georgia’s six-week abortion ban will remain in place after the state Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that the law is valid — a move that leaves abortion largely inaccessible in the South. … The law was among the strictest in the nation when it was signed by Gov. “Georgia Republican lawmakers have introduced a bill that would classify abortion as a homicide, despite their own constituents’ widespread opposition to banning the procedure. The bill, introduced Thursday, would classify a human as an ‘unborn child at every stage of development from fertilization until birth.’ As a result, terminating a pregnancy could be considered and prosecuted as a homicide. … people who use IUDs or emergency contraception—both of which prevent fertilized eggs from implanting—could be charged with murder.”

Donald Trump is demanding credit for the extreme abortion bans that MAGA Republicans have passed around the country and said he is “proud” of his efforts to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Trump: “For 54 years they were trying to get Roe v. Wade terminated, and I did it, and I’m proud to have done it. … Nobody else was going to get that done but me, and we did it, and we did something that was a miracle.”
Trump: “After 50 years of failure, with nobody coming even close, I was able to kill Roe v. Wade, much to the ‘shock’ of everyone … Without me there would be no 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 15 weeks, or whatever is finally agreed to. Without me the pro Life movement would have just kept losing. Trump: “Getting rid of Roe v. Wade was an incredible thing for pro-life because it gave pro-life something to negotiate with. Pro-life had absolutely nothing, being stuck in Roe v. Wade, to negotiate with. … And look, everybody that was president wanted to get rid and tried to get rid of Roe v. Wade … For fifty years, this has been going on. I was able to do it, and I was very honored to do it.”
Trump supports a national abortion ban and has a yearslong extreme anti-abortion record.
Trump: “There of course remains a vital role for the federal government in protecting unborn life. And it’s very important.”
Trump on if he would sign a six-week national abortion ban: “I’m looking at all [options].”
Trump: “We’ll pick something that’s going to be very, very good for pro-life … I’m going to be in there pushing.”
Trump: “There has to be some form of punishment [for women who have abortions].”
The Hill: “The Trump administration formally backed a House bill Monday that would ban abortions after 20 weeks. … It would make it a crime to perform or attempt an abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy, with the possibility of a fine, up to five years in prison or both.”
Nikki Haley said she would sign any nationwide abortion ban that landed on her desk and has pledged her support for extreme abortion bans before many women know they’re pregnant.
Kirsten Welker: “Would you support a 15-week federal limit?”
Haley: “I would support anything that would pass.”
Haley: “Whatever we can get 60 Senate votes on, isn’t that better than what we have now? And if it’s– if it’s six weeks, that’s great. If it’s 15 weeks, that’s great.”
Fox News: “Nikki Haley, 2024 Republican candidate, vows to sign federal abortion ban if elected president”
Haley: “So what can we do? Is there room for a federal law? I think there is room for a federal law.”
Haley: “Yes of course I would sign [a federal ban].”
Haley: “The debate that we’re having in this country is … can there be a federal law that deals with abortion … I do think there’s a place for federal law.”
